The National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene and the JCC Association of America proudly present "Soul to Soul," a concert depicting the historical journeys, and shared cultural legacy, of the African American and American Jewish communities in honor of Martin Luther King, Jr. Day.
"Soul to Soul" marks the historical connections between two people and two cultures whose destinies have so often intersected. The common struggle against oppression and discrimination, and the ongoing striving for equal rights and social justice, have brought about alliances and close cooperation between the African American and American Jewish communities over many years. This has given us a shared and rich musical legacy that is movingly celebrated in "Soul to Soul."
The concert, conceived by its musical director Zalmen Mlotek, artistic director of the National Yiddish Theatre Folksbiene, stars Lisa Fishman, Cantor Magda Fishman, Elmore James, Maestro Mlotek, Tony Perry and Tatiana Wechsler, who is supervising the video production for this historic holiday performance.
