Japanese for "hard-soft style," Goju Ryu Karate incorporates tactics executed at close range. Mind, body and spirit are fundamental to the highly effective self-defense system of Goju Ryu, taught by Desmond Tuck, a Japan-graded 7th Degree black belt.
Desmond Tuck has been training in Goju Ryu since 1970, teaching since 1974, and trains annually in Japan. He has been honored with the title of Kyoshi in the Goju Ryu Seiwa Kai organization, a member of the All Japan Karatedo Federation, Goju Kai. He is a practicing attorney in San Mateo.
Seiwa Kai was organized by the late Shuji Tasaki, Hanshi, and is currently headed by Seiichi Fujiwara, Hanshi, based in Omagari-Daisen, Japan. It is a traditional Goju Ryu organization with over 30,000 members worldwide.
Previous karate experience in this particular discipline or any other is not required. The class is ideal for teens to adults. Uniforms are mandatory.
