Put on your dancing shoes! Join Teacher Becki for a fun Parent and Me dance class that is sure to make your child's first dance experience a fun and happy one! We will blend movement, music and basic dance steps for an excellent introduction to their future study of dance.
Becki started her dance career at the age of two, where she started tap and jazz at Darlene's in Fremont. Her first performance experience was a beauty pageant. Becki talked about her tap shoes and how they make noise and ended up winning first runner up for Ms. Fremont. When she was three, Becki moved to Joanne Brown Dancers in Union City. Quickly, tap, jazz and lyrical became her first love, and the studio her second home. She became a competitive dancer at the age of seven doing acro jazz (gymnastics and jazz).
Also at seven, Becki added theater to her experiences. Her first show was Annie, playing an orphan. Dance and theater became her first loves. In high school, she joined the James Logan Color Guard, along with choir and the dance team. She was the first freshman to get a varsity letter in theater in Logan's history. After spending four years in the theater department, and dance team, Becki graduated and went off to Ohlone College. She majored in theater and dance, while adding directing to her experiences, directing her first one act play. While she was on the Ohlone's dance team she also became a Spartan Spectrum Dancer for San Jose State. In 1999 Becki was part of the half time show at the Aloha Bowl in Honolulu.
From 2001 to 2003, she took a break from dance to travel for work. After having her first daughter she came back to Joanne Brown Dancers to put her daughter in dance. She realized how much she missed dancing, so she joined Joanne's competitive dance team for adults ages 18 and up. It's been an adventure competing every year, and she has enjoyed being on stage and performing.
In 2004 Becki was ready for a new experience and started teaching the preschool classes for Joanne. She now teaches three classes a week, adding 5–9-year-olds and 10–16-year-olds in tap and jazz. She loves taking all she has learned over the years and giving it back to her students.
