OFJCC Palo Alto JCCEnjoy a live theater performance on Zoom. The Actual Dance is a one-person, award-winning play written and performed by Sam Simon. It is a love story of a Jewish man who faces the worst moment in his life and finds the strength and gift inherent in what seems like an inevitable loss. Yet, it will have you laugh, cry and then stand and cheer with unexpected joy. The story you hear is true in every detail. Sam will be joined by his wife Susan, now married 54 years, after the performance to answer questions.

Actual Dance has toured for eight years. Sam has performed at many cancer support centers and religious organizations (churches and synagogues) including a performance in Jerusalem in 2019.

Samuel A Simon started his career 50 years ago as one of the first lawyers to work for Ralph Nader. After serving in the military as an Army lawyer, he returned to Washington to become a highly regarded expert on consumer rights and telecommunications. Sam has appeared on Face the Nation, Today, Good Morning American, Phil Donohue and Oprah Winfrey. In 2000 after leaving his public affairs work, he became a Senior Fellow in the Social Justice Ministry of the Collegiate Churches of New York. He served 19 years on the Board of Advisors to Hebrew Union College and is now Emeritus.

Sam is professionally trained in improvisation and theater as part of Artistic New Directions and the Gary Austin Workshops. Sam lives in Mclean, Virginia, with his wife, Susan. They have two children and four grandchildren.
