Community Conversations Presents Classical Dance Music

    When: Tuesday, 5/11/2021 1:00 PM - 2:00 PM

    Where: Online

OFJCC Palo Alto JCCEnjoy an afternoon of wonderful classical music inspired by folk song and dance.

The spirit of the dance has been entwined with classical music for centuries. This program by pianist Ian Scarfe and violinist Philip Brezina will share music from their new album California Classical, including works from different countries and cultures. The program will feature Russian Romances, the elegance of Beethoven, lively Hungarian peasant dances, Norwegian dances by Edvard Grieg, and the sounds of old Vienna with Fritz Kreisler.

Ian Scarfe is a concert pianist who has enjoyed a long career as a performer. He has toured in Europe and the United States regularly as a soloist, and as a member of several ensembles, including the Zurich Beethoven Trio and the Vinifera Trio. A well-known collaborative pianist, he has worked with hundreds of wonderful musicians from around the world. He is the founder and director of the Trinity Alps Chamber Music Festival, now in its 10th season, and runs several Bay Area concert series.

He is a graduate of the San Francisco Conservatory of Music, where he currently teaches, and is also faculty and guest artist of the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival in Alaska, and Festival Rolland in Burgundy, France.

Ian balances an impressive career as an impresario, organizing over a hundred concerts around the world each year. This has continued during the pandemic crisis, as Ian has worked hard to refocus his musical career on recording and broadcasting music. He currently presents an incredible variety of musicians and musical programs for online programming, both publicly through his Trinity Alps Festival, and privately, for numerous organizations, music clubs and even Zoom birthday parties. You can find his recordings online on YouTube or at his website, www.ianscarfe.com and learn more about his upcoming events at www.TrinityAlpsCMF.org.

Philip Brezina is a violinist based in San Francisco. He performs regularly with the San Jose Opera and the Trinity Alps Chamber Music Festival, and is in a popular folk-rock-bluegrass band called The Brothers Comatose.

The program is free but requires registration to get the Zoom link.

This program is underwritten by Walter Dean, Barbara Franklin and Inna Shor. Senior Programs are made possible in part by generous contributions from the John R. Schwabacher Family, Diane and Jon Claerbout in memory of their beloved son Jos, as well as the Jewish Community Federation & Endowment Fund. We are grateful for their generous support.
