    The Mediterranean Sea—an Untapped Platform

    A fireside chat with Prof. Dan Tchernov and Amir Faintuch (in English)

    The Mediterranean Sea is a treasure trove of information, insights and answers to some of the world's most critical agricultural, ecological and environmental challenges. A department comprised of some of world's leading researchers and unfettered access to the sea have positioned University of Haifa as a global leader in Marine Sciences. Professor Dan Tchernov, founder of the Marine Biology Department at the Leon H. Charney School of Marine Sciences, and OFJCC Board Member Amir Faintuch, will discuss a shared passion for exploring and researching the Mediterranean, the human imprint on the future of the oceans and the social and economic implications and opportunities that abound from understanding the sea.

    Professor Tchernov has been a Vice President for Resource Development and External Relations since October 2017. He heads the coastal research facility as part of the Helmsley Charitable Trust Mediterranean Research Center. He also heads the Morris Kahn Marine Research station. His main interests are in climate change biology, coral biology, marine ecology and conservation biology.

    Amir Faintuch was recently Senior Vice President and General Manager of the Platform Engineering Group at Intel Corporation. In this role, he led numerous worldwide engineering teams that were responsible for the intellectual property (IP) design, system-on-chip (SoC) development, validation and manufacturing of the company's overall chip portfolio across Intel businesses. 

    Since joining Intel in 2014, Faintuch led a major engineering transformation focused on increasing Intel's product competitiveness and predictability and unleashing operational effectiveness across the organization. Prior to joining Intel, Faintuch was president of Qualcomm Atheros, a large subsidiary of Qualcomm Inc., where he managed the company's networking, connectivity infrastructure and emerging Internet of Things semiconductor businesses. He also managed worldwide technical execution growing the business into a leadership position on a large scale, spanning multiple wireless and wired technologies across market segments.

    The lecture will be held in English.

    הים התיכון מספק אנרגיה, מזון ומי שתייה לישראל, אך באופן מדהים אף אחד לא טרח עד היום לחקור, למפות ולתעד אותו במידה שתאפשר להגן עליו ועלינו. בשיחה מפתיעה זו, ישוחחו פיינטוך וצ'רנוב, חוקר ימי, על המשאב האסטרטגי הכי חשוב והכי נסתר של המדינה.

    ד"ר צ'רנוב הוא סגן נשיא לקשרי חוץ ופיתוח משאבים, מייסד החוג לביולוגיה ימית בבית הספר למדעי הים ע"ש ליאון צ'רני, ראש תחנת מוריס קאהן לחקר הים, אוניברסיטת חיפה.  

    אמיר פיינטוך כיהן עד לאחרונה כסגן נשיא בכיר באינטל העולמית, היה מנהל הפיתוח העולמי ובתפקידו האחרון שימש כבכיר באינטל קפיטל, זרוע ההשקעות של אינטל.
