Just Text (Class 4) | Tisha B'Av: The Calendar's Focus on Destruction and Healing

An Introduction to Social Justice and Social Activism Through The Lens of Ancient Jewish Sources

    When: Wednesday, 7/29/2020 7:00 PM - 8:00 PM

    Where: Online

"Just Text" is our newest mini-course in the OFJCC and BINA adult learning series called "Judaism: The New Basics."

This mini-course, presented with the OFJCC Center for Social Impact, will consist of seven sOFJCC Palo Alto JCCessions. Participants are welcome to sign up for any individual session, or to sign up for all seven sessions in the mini-course. Each class costs $12; the whole course costs $70.

We are living in an unexpectedly vulnerable time. The global health crisis (dayenu!) surfaced our society's pre-existing social gaps, and shone a light on our society's pre-existing systematic injustices. The need to better understand and respond to these issues is more urgent than ever. This course aims to relate the contemporary headlines to Jewish themes of social justice. We will study ancient Jewish sources in order to investigate and contextualize the Jewish vision of a more perfect society.

Participants are welcome to attend any individual class or to enroll in the entire course for a discounted rate. To register for all seven classes, click here. Registration for individual classes is available via the links below.

This course is part of "Judaism: the New Basics" learning program which was created through the partnership between the Oshman Family JCC and Bina: The Jewish Movement for Social Change in Israel. To learn more, click here.
