    Israel as a Key Player in the Global Fight Against Human Trafficking

    January is National Slavery and Human Trafficking Prevention Month. Please join us to hear from advocate Dina Dominitz, Israel's acting national anti-trafficking coordinator and head of the anti-trafficking unit at the Ministry of Justice, about Israel's advanced policies and practices combating human trafficking, and protecting the victims of this horrific crime.

    OFJCC Palo Alto JCCDina Dominitz has worked as a senior director in the legal department of the Israeli Ministry of Interior. Her roles included director of inter-ministry committees, including the committee for the establishment of shelters for victims of human trafficking and the committee for border and checkpoints-control reform. Dominitz has also worked as senior deputy to the attorney eneral, Civil Litigation Department, Ministry of Justice, where she represented all government ministries and authorities in civil lawsuits before the Supreme Court. Among her roles, Dominitz headed a professional inter-ministerial forum formed to deal with core legal issues and form state policy pertaining to family law and welfare of minors.

    OFJCC Palo Alto JCCSince 2016, Dominitz has been the acting national anti-trafficking coordinator and head of the anti-trafficking unit at the Ministry of Justice. This role includes multi-faceted coordination between all relevant governmental ministries and institutions, NGOs, international agencies and organizations in promoting the fight against human trafficking. Her efforts include prevention, protection, prosecution, partnership, representation in various parliamentary committees, promotion of legislation initiatives, preparation and presentation of official reports to various international entities (US State Department, UNODC, OSCE, ILO, the EU and more) and management of a steering committee and the special forfeiture fund for victims of trafficking. Dominitz was enrolled in a joint fast track for excelling students at Bar-Ilan University and earned LL.B and LL.M degrees.

    The lecture will be held in English.

    בעשורים האחרונים התפתחה בעולם תופעה המכונה סחר בבני אדם, או עבדות מודרנית. עיקרה של התופעה הוא הפיכת בני אדם לאובייקטים למילוי צרכיהם של אחרים, בדרך כלל כדי להפיק מהם רווח כלכלי. תופעה גלובלית זו מתבטאת בניצול קשה של בני אדם, לרוב מארצות מצוקה או מרקע מוחלש.

    חודש ינואר הוא חודש המאבק בסחר בבני אדם. עו"ד דינה דומיניץ, מנהלת היחידה למאבק בסחר בבני אדם בישראל במשרד המשפטים הישראלי, תציג את תמונת המצב לגבי מיקומה של ישראל כמדינה מובילה בעולם במאבק זה. הארוע יתקיים בשיתוף הקונסוליה הכללית של ישראל לצפון-מערב ארה"ב וה-National Council of Jewish Women San Francisco (NCJW).
