For centuries, revolutionary movements have been inspired and bolstered by anthems and music from the first battle cry to public protests. This two-part lecture will explore the musical sounds of battle, from bagpipes to the American bugle, along with  the musical messages hidden in plain sight of oppressive regimes. Covering hundreds of years, hear about the subversive musicians of the Renaissance through the present time with rock n' roll and Woodstock!

Mezzo soprano Deborah Rosengaus is a native of the Bay Area. She has performed internationally in East Asia and Australia, with recitals in Mexico, Europe and across the US, including  Avery Fisher Hall, Carnegie Hall, Beijing Center for the Performing Arts, Santori Hall in Tokyo and Disney Hall with the Los Angeles Philharmonic. She performs regularly in opera and musical theater with West Edge, Lamplighters, Livermore Opera, Opera San Jose, Pocket Opera, Los Altos Stage, Solo Opera and Island City Opera.

Aside from her performing career, Deborah is a sought-after lecturer with courses given for Osher at Santa Clara University, San Francisco Opera Guild, College of Marin, San Mateo Adult School and institutions for continued learning around the Bay Area. She holds a BM from USC and an MM from the Manhattan School of Music. For more information visit www.DeborahRosengaus.com.
