Broadway's new musical Come From Away has won the award for Best Musical all across North America. The plot is based on the true story of 7,000 passengers stranded on 9/11 in a small town in Newfoundland, Canada. It tells the story of Beverly Bass, the first female captain for American Airlines, who piloted one of the 38 planes diverted to Gander International Airport in Newfoundland.
The small town was overwhelmed but welcomed the strangers from all over the world and formed enduring friendships.
The musical is written by Tony and Grammy nominees Irene Sankoff and David Hein, a Canadian husband and wife team. Directed by Tony-winning Best Director Christopher Ashley, Come From Away is playing at the Golden Gate Theater in San Francisco. We will go directly to the theater; there is no lunch stop.
Funded in part by the Senior Mobility Initiative of the Jewish Community Federation and Endowment Fund.
