    2020 Mitzvah Day

13th Annual Martin Luther King, Jr. Community Day of Service

    When: Monday, 1/20/2020

Where: Albert and Janet Schultz Cultural Arts Hall (Bldg F)

“Everybody Can Be Great, Because Anybody Can Serve” ~ Martin Luther King, Jr.

Join hundreds of your neighbors for a community-wide day of "tikkun olam" ("repair of the world") as part of a National Day of Service to honor the life and legacy of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. This inter-generational event will feature a range of hands-on service projects; participants will work in small groups on projects addressing issues of poverty, hunger, housing and homelessness, aging, the environment and more.

Come on your own or with your family and friends! We ask that any volunteers under the age of 15 be accompanied by a parent.
We look forward to working with you to promote Dr. King's legacy of tolerance, peace and equality and increase our community's commitment to service and justice. This fun and inspirational day will leave you feeling accomplished and energized!

“A community is too heavy for anyone to carry alone.” ~ Based on Deuteronomy 1:9

    Project Leaders:
Looking for extra community service hours? Would you like a Mitzvah Day t-shirt? Do you want to help create or lead a project? Then sign up and become a Project Leader! It's simple; contact Robin the Mitzvah Day Coordinator about the project you are interested in leading.

What is expected of a Project Leader? Before Mitzvah Day, come to the OFJCC to receive your assignment and t-shirt. On Mitzvah Day wear your t-shirt and manage your project (from set up to giving directions to volunteers, to breakdown; you may even get to deliver the outcome!). For more information, contact Robin at [email protected].

This year we have over 25 projects you can choose from: onsite and off-site, for kids, teens and adults.

Registration is now closed. We have limited space in some on-site projects. To sign up, please email [email protected]

Participate in this year’s Collection Drive. Bring new and lightly used coats to be donated to EHP Cares.

Please note that there will be a $5 materials fee assessed for each Mitzvah Day participant. This fee allows us to cover to cost of the project.
