| Planned Legacy Gifts |
|
| Join the Oshman Family JCC Pomegranate Society by making a planned legacy gift. While outright gifts such as cash and stock are always appreciated, donors can also support the OFJCC by making a planned gift, such as a bequest made through a will or trust, and thereby create a legacy. Planned gifts usually involve the assistance of a qualified estate planning professional to maximize benefits for both the donor and the OFJCC. Immediate benefits to you might include tax savings, additional income, and the satisfaction of knowing that your personal charitable goals will be met. | |
| Examples of legacy planned gifts include: | |
| An outright bequest that includes the OFJCC in your estate plan can be made as a specified dollar amount or a percentage of your estate’s assets to be transferred to the OFJCC. Charitable bequests made through a will or trust can help reduce your taxable estate. | |
| You may designate the OFJCC as a beneficiary of your IRA, Keogh or other retirement plan. Because retirement plans are normally funded with pre-tax dollars, by naming the OFJCC as a primary beneficiary you may be able to significantly reduce both income and estate taxes that would otherwise have to be paid. | |
| Life insurance is an easy way to make a planned gift by contributing an unneeded policy or by naming the OFJCC as a beneficiary. | |
| Charitable trusts funded with cash, stocks, bonds, real estate or other assets. These trusts can provide you an array of benefits, from deferring capital gains taxes to creating an immediate income tax deduction and providing you income for life. | |
| Recommending OFJCC as a beneficiary of your donor advised fund. | |
| How to get started | |
| You can demonstrate your interest in becoming a Pomegranate Society Member by filling out and returning the Letter of Intent (PDF). This is not a legally binding document, but does formally indicate your intention to make a planned legacy gift to help secure the success of the OFJCC in perpetuity. With your permission, we will list you as a member of Pomegranate Society, which, in turn, will be a source of inspiration to others. Please contact Luba Palant at (650) 223-8656 or lpalant@paloaltojcc.org with any questions about making a planned legacy gift to the OFJCC Pomegranate Society. |

| About the Pomegranate Society | |
| Now that OFJCC is situated in its beautiful, permanent home on the Taube Koret Campus for Jewish Life, we want to be certain that the OFJCC continues to provide the vibrant nexus for Jewish Life in the South Peninsula for generations to come. The Pomegranate Society has been created to ensure that goal becomes an enduring reality through honoring those generous individuals who have included the OFJCC in their will or through another legacy gift. Members of the Pomegranate Society set an inspirational example for others by affirming their own commitment to a vibrant Jewish life in the South Peninsula for generations to come. The pomegranate is one of the ‘seven species’ of fruits and grains in Israel that are cited in the Torah, and is a symbol of fertility and plenty. According to the Midrash, the pomegranate contains 613 seeds, corresponding to the number of mitzvot found in the Torah. The pomegranate adorns the mezzuzot found on doorposts throughout the Oshman Family JCC’s new home on the Taube Koret Campus for Jewish Life. |
