| The Life & Work of Edgar Degas |
| Of all the artists associated with Impressionism, Edgar Degas was the most complex in his approach. In these two talks, we will explore this artist's fascinating life and career, his relationship to the other major artists and photographers, and his artistic evolution. Included in our discussions will be the ballet world he depicted, themes of women of questionable reputation, and the arena of horseracing. Brigid Barton is a professor emerita from Santa Clara University, where she taught for over 30 years in the Department of Art and Art History. While there, she chaired her department, directed the university museum and participated in major policy-making committees. Since retiring, she has taught often in the Stanford Continuing Studies program, the OLLI program at Santa Clara University, and she just finished teaching a course at the Cantor Center for the Visual Arts at Stanford. |
