Doshinkan
With Black Belt Arthur Michelson
Join us in this unique, non-competitive martial art inspired by ancient Chinese and Japanese forms as well as a modern understanding of health and movement.

Learn self-defense techniques through hard (karate-like) and soft (tai chi-like) movements including elements of grappling and throwing. Work on strength, balance, flexibility, speed and mental focus with the ultimate goal being a healthier and more invigorated life. Proper training helps us better understand ourselves and our relationships to others and influences our moral and ethical behavior. Doshinkan does not engage in competitions or free sparring.

Arthur Michelson holds the rank of 8º Black Belt and the title of Shihan (Master Teacher). He has trained in Doshinkan since 1974 and has taught for over 30 years. He has extensive experience in other martial art systems including Japanese Karate (Wadokai), Judo, Jiujitsu, Aikido, and Kung-fu. His career included being an epidemiologist, computer specialist and a math teacher. He is a graduate of the SF Conservatory of Music in classical guitar.
