He is a retired middle school teacher who was born in Palo Alto and taught 33 years in Los Angeles public schools. His parents are Holocaust survivors who escaped from Germany. His grandfather won the 1922 Nobel Prize for Medicine/Physiology. David will include anecdotes about his parents' amazing escape from Nazi Germany.
June
June 7: Masters of Modern Israeli Literature
A.B. Yehoshua, Amos Oz, David Grossman and Meir Shalev: these literary giants have shaped the character of modern Israeli literature in the Post-Holocaust era. In doing so, they have also shared with the world their insights on the character of the nation and its people, sometimes to acclaim, sometimes to criticism. Our class will explore the content and style of each author with sample readings available. We’ll look for common threads and messages in such works as Journey to the End of the Millennium, A Tale of Love and Darkness, Journey to the End of the Land, and Blue Mountain, all the time appreciating the unique qualities of each author.
June 14 Making Stress Work For You
Conventional thinking says that stress is bad for you but that’s not always the case. This presentation focuses on self‐care activities for seniors; avoiding bad stress and finding ways to maximize good stress. Participants will identify personal stressors and
develop action plans for positive coping.
